About

The main reason I wanted to try a blog is Awareness. Migraine and any Chronic Pain/Illness is mostly invisible. The people that suffer from it feel invisible. Looking fine on the outside while feeling horrible on the inside. We put smiles on our faces and try our best to push through. But, many times… especially when we’re alone it’s not that easy. When most people have invisible illnesses/pain, encouragement or support is not very prevalent. People don’t always understand how much we can push through and how great we can look when we claim to hurt and/or feel so bad. This blog is also for me. Writing can be therapeutic. It also allows me to see how God is working in my life and how blessed I truly am.

I’m Melissa, a 30-something living with a constant (yes, 24/7) migraine for more than a decade.

I had Bacterial Spinal Meningitis (the Haemophilus influenzae type B or HIB strain) when I was a toddler and almost died… 13 months before the vaccine came out. Very soon after (before I turned 2 years old) I started with Migraine.

I was officially diagnosed with Migraine at age 5 or 6. Have been seeing doctors & specialists for it ever since. Been on basically every medicine out there that is prescribed to treat Migraine, have had numerous tests and procedures during the years (many of which were very painful).

My migraines were episodic and usually treated pretty effectively through the years with managing my triggers the best I could, and finding the right preventative medicine combination that worked. Also, a few alternative therapies helped in managing them. But, about 13 years ago during my spring semester of my freshman year of college… my life changed. For some reason or another, my body decided to go chronic. Now, Chronic Migraine for most people mean that they have 15 or more days a month with a migraine.  MY chronic is a migraine that has been nonstop with NO relief in pain whatsoever for 13 YEARS. In the last 5 years, my normal pain level has been an 8 or 9 out of 10. It is never less than 8, but can seem a lot worse than 10. There are also many other symptoms that accompany Migraine, not just head pain.

I’ve tried pretty much everything out there… so the majority of the suggestions that come my way are not new to me or my doctors. I do appreciate when people pass things on, because I know it means they care.

Thanks for stopping by!
